Hi, I’m Jess Orr.
I graduated with my Bachelor and Master of Social Work from the University of Akron. I am a licensed independent social worker with a supervision designation. Additionally, I am a trained EMDR and Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) therapist and hold a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) certification. I am passionate about serving clients with trauma histories and clients amid their perinatal journeys. I have experience working with Veterans, first responders, medical professionals, abuse survivors and parents experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). My love for therapy began while working in Washington State at a Vet Center serving Veterans who had either deployed to a warzone or experienced military sexual trauma (MST) while enlisted in the US Armed Forces. There I was afforded the opportunity to be trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). While developing and improving my expertise in trauma therapy I had the privilege of working with military parents also learning to navigate the challenges of parenthood paired with the demands of a military career, and so began my passion for the perinatal mental health community as well.
I was born and raised in northeast Ohio. I understand, as a family member, the concern and distress that comes with having a loved one in a warzone and have a deep-rooted passion and respect for our service members. I am also a mother and know the value and importance of normalizing how parents react throughout their perinatal journey and want to empower parents who don’t feel they are fitting the image society has set for us. I am down to earth, take a client-centered and solution focused approach to client needs and will meet you where you are at in your healing journey. I can’t wait to meet you and look forward to connecting!
My Approach
I recognize coming to therapy places us in a raw and vulnerable position. It is important to me that you feel comfortable, secure and respected while you’re in my physical or virtual office. Rapport building is a huge part of the therapeutic relationship and I am direct, openminded, empowering and use a good bit of humor in my approach to connecting with clients.
